Wooden Mating Nuc Frames - Plastic Coated Foundation (Assembled)

These frames are specifically designed and made to ensure that the bees DO NOT glue the comb to the sides of the mating nuc. In many mating nuc designs, the bees are allowed to build a natural comb from a top bar, hoping that the natural parabolic shape will ensure that the comb doesn't touch the sides of the nuc. However, from experience that seldom works out. Using this old method invariably comb is stuck to the nuc sides and is broken or damaged when the beekeeper lifts the frame out looking for evidence that the queen is mated and/or looking for the queen.

With our designed frames, with the comb surrounded by wood, the comb will not be damaged and it is an easy exercise to lift out the frames in search of the queen. This saving beekeeper time and protecting built comb is a huge plus.

In addition, these frames have been sized to nicely fit in a double row in a special super, which can then be put on a standard 10-frame sized Langstroth hive to get the comb built by the hive bees. This saves time and energy for the nurse bees that you stock the mating nuc with, so they are healthy and ready to care for the virgin queen.
