Eyelets stop the frame wire from cutting into the wood of the end bar, and so would otherwise loosen over time. A small detail, but it could save a good honey comb from blowing out in the extractor.
Approx hole size 3.5mm diameter and 6mm deep.

frame wire eyes
a little fiddly to fit until I tried sliding the eye onto a piece of wire as a guide. I use a short length of bicycle spoke. makes threading and tightening the wire easy.
