Plastic frames
Great service and product.
We have been manufacturing plastic frames in New Zealand with virgin food grade plastic, from our own dies since 2000. We are a New Zealand pioneer and still the best. In fact, we invented the black frame, now the world wide industry standard. Black shows more easily the white eggs and young larvae in their cells.
- Carton size: 48 frames
- Pallet size: 864 frames (18 cartons)
Why plastic? Simply it is more durable, more efficient, and more cost effective. Frames do not blow out in the extractor. Good drawn comb is preserved, saving the bees energy and hence producing more surplus honey.
We supply the 3/4 depth frame in three different end bar widths: 33mm, or 35mm, or the 42mm Manley.
Bees need the frames to be coated with a very thin layer of beeswax to encourage them to draw the comb. These frames come already coated with beeswax and are ready to be put in the hive. If you want to coat them yourself - a good winter job - check out our uncoated frames category. If you need beeswax for coating, well we sell that too.
As an aside, we can mould frames in any colour you want. We know of a few clever beekeepers who will mould other colours to help monitor the age of the comb, discarding comb, say five years old. Contact us if this is of interest. The coloured food grade plastics are much dearer than the basic plastic and a small extra charge for a colour is therefore necessary.
