Blue top feeders are the best in the world
Hello, my name is Sjerp Willem Snellen and I have a YouTube Channel where I give tips about advanced beekeeping under the name 'Sjerp Snellen'. I was the first person in New Zealand to get a level 4 beekeeping certificate and I have over 30 years of beekeeping experience. Now, why are those blue feeders the best: They are the best because first of all top feeders are the best. This way the heat of the hive preheats the sugar (better). 2. Because of the rim, you don't lose much heat and the sugar stays warm (the bees will do much better). 3. One of the best feeds is watery (like the watery nectar for brood stimulation). I like to give them 1 sugar to 4 water unlimited to get a crazy build-up. But you normally get mouldy feeders so the bees need to be able to clean them. How? Make a small hole the size of a bee in the bottom of the lowest cornercap (only in one cap). From now on, the bees will clean the feeder after emptying it and then withdraw so you can fill it up again. Also, I advise you to roughen the feeders up behind the corner caps (the blue is slippery). Also, I recommend you use a hive mat on top of the feeders and on top of that, a thick sheet of polystyrene (on top of the mat). This way, and if you give them an unlimited supply of watery sugar syrup) you will have an absolute success formula. 4. I am always shocked that beekeepers are not being understood by suppliers (Ceracell does). So, the only feeders I am using are those feeders.
