Hot Paraffin Wax Dipping & Candle Making

Wood Preservation with Paraffin Wax

  • Highly effective treatment – Woodware can last up to 20 years, even unpainted.

  • Process:

    • Paraffin wax is heated to 130°C – 180°C.

    • Wood is immersed for about 10 minutes to ensure deep penetration.

    • As it cools, molten wax fills the voids, preventing moisture absorption.

    • Optional: Paint can be applied while hot for enhanced durability.

  • Benefits:

    • Prevents mold and fungal decay by eliminating moisture.

    • Extends wood lifespan, reducing maintenance costs.

    • Safe for food contact, making it ideal for beekeeping.

Candle Making with Paraffin Wax

  • Paraffin wax is widely used for candle making, offering a clean and consistent burn.

  • Mixing options: Often combined with microcrystalline wax or tree rosin (pine gum) to improve texture and burn quality.

  • Process:

    1. Melt the wax in a controlled-temperature vat.

    2. Add dyes, scents, or beeswax if desired.

    3. Pour into molds or candle containers with a wick in place.

    4. Allow to cool and set before trimming the wick and using.

  • Benefits of Paraffin Candles:

    • Long-lasting & cost-effective.

    • Strong scent throw when fragrance is added.

    • Smooth finish and easy to color.

Accessibility & Considerations

  • Wood preservation requires specialized equipment – typically used by commercial beekeepers.

  • For hobbyists:

    • Check if a local beekeeping club has a dipping vat.

    • Collaborate with a commercial beekeeper to share resources.

  • Candle making is easier for home use, requiring only a wax melter, molds, and wicks.

This is fully refined paraffin wax. We are bee keepers but also bicycle enthusiasts. This wax works superbly for waxing bicycle chains. If you are wondering if you should wax your bicycle chains, the bigger question is why aren't you doing it already?
