Ceracell Nucleus Colony – What You Get
Each Nucleus (Nuc) Colony includes:
- 5 frames of bees
- 2 frames of brood
- 3 frames of honey and pollen stores
- A laying queen
What is a Nucleus Colony?
A Nucleus Colony (or Nuc) is a small but growing bee colony. It contains just enough bees to support a single queen as she expands the colony.
Nucs are supplied as frames only, ready to be placed into an existing (empty) hive setup. This makes them an excellent option for beginners, allowing new beekeepers to grow their confidence alongside their hive. For experienced beekeepers, Nucs offer a cost-effective way to expand hive numbers.
A Nuc is a more affordable entry point than a full 10-frame colony, but it takes longer to develop. A typical 5-frame Nuc contains around 5,000 bees, compared to 20,000–30,000 bees in a full hive.
Why Are Nucs Only Available Seasonally?
Bees follow natural seasonal cycles. During August, September, and early October, colonies are still recovering from winter.
To create Nucs, established colonies must first build strength before being split. This is why Nucs are only available from late September onwards.

Excellent service
Bees arrived well parcelled and in good condition. Excellent communications during transport. Five days later the hive is healthy, the queen is busy and new eggs and grubs are very evident.

Very good
They are nice quiet bee's are a pleasure to work with swarms are growing fast for the most part. One has been a concern as there didn't appear to be a lot of eggs or lavey but she has got it together I think apart from the one they are very good
