Suitable for use with plastic foundation. Kitset. Compatible with 3/4 depth Langstroth boxes. Assembly by you required. You will have to supply your own nails or staples.
This kitset frame has a grooved bottom bar as well as the top bar. This allows you to pop in a sheet of plastic foundation, either the high quality US made permadent brand (for sale by Ceracell) or the heavier gauge deep cell plastic sheet (for sale by Ceracell).
You may want to consider treating your woodware before assembly, or after. For internal frames it may be satisfactory to treat with copper naphthenate just the frame lugs (or ears). We have available for sale copper naphthenate. And of course we now have the fantastic totally chemical free wood preservatives WB1 and WB2 from Gripset. The wood frame with plastic foundation combines the advantages of both wood frames and plastic frames. Some beekeepers prefer the stiffness of the wooden frame when working their hives, but want the superior durability of the plastic foundation. This option provides for that. Note, you will want to ensure the plastic foundation is coated with a thin layer of beeswax. You can do that yourself or purchase plastic wax coated foundation from Ceracell.
